
Goffs Oak is a small village in rural Hertfordshire. Like many of Britain's towns and villages, it has a historical past. Recently, it there has been a demand for more affordable housing within Goffs Oak and the area remains popular with the public. It has many local amenities including a postal service, school, public house and church.
A school was built in the village in the middle of the 19th century, and up until this time education was very much a luxury reserved for upper class children.
The village also has a church, St. James's Church which was built thanks to the generous donations of local people in the 1800's.
The Methodist faith is a denomination of the Christian faith and has recently signed a covenant with the Church of England in 2003. It was split into to three main sectors in Britain until it was united into the United Methodist Church in the 20th Century.
The Methodist movement does not have Bishops and is run by an organisation known as the 'connexion'. The connexion holds annual meeting. Each area of the country is split into 'districts' and a quarterly meeting is held within each circuit of a district. These circuits are presided over by the superintendent minister.
